Sony Firmware Update Patch for Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite

Good news for Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite users who’ve been stuck trying to update Sony A7, A7R, A7S, A6000 or A77II to Firmware 1.10, there’s a driverloader kernel extension available from Sony that once installed will allow you to update these cameras using Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite.

PLEASE NOTE: This step is only required if your computer is running Mac OS X 10.10 (or later). If your computer is running Mac OS X 10.9 or lower, it is not needed to perform this and you can directly go the next step “Install the software”. Also note the Firmware 1.10 Update for Sony A7II is already Mac OS 10.10 compatible.

Here’s how to install Sony driverloader kernel extension for Mac OS X 10.10 (or later):

1. Download this DriverLoader file: [DL100_1411a.dmg] (Click here to Download)

DL100_1411a

2. Double-click the [DL100_1411a.dmg] file you downloaded. Do not connect the camera at this point

3. Double-click the [DL100_1411a] icon which appears on the Desktop

DriverLoader-2

4. Double-click the [DriverLoader] icon

5. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account

Once this driverloader is installed you’ll be able to run these Sony firmware updates using Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite.

      1. I never used this one, but need something light and fast just to make a photoshoot. I got lightroom, it is not light but will try if it works.

  1. For what it’s worth, I’m running Yosemite 10.10.2, have installed the 1411A patch and after numerous tries, by the book, still can’t complete the A6000 firmware upgrade. According to Sony’s instructions, the A6000 LCD is supposed to go black but it never does. It continues to display the “mass storage” screen. However, I was able to successfully update the firmware in my A7s earlier today.

  2. Hold the phone! User error! Disregard my previous post (“For what it’s worth …) above. It helps to install the correct update. I believed I had downloaded the appropriate software for all three of my Sony cameras – the A7s, the A7II and the A6000. After successfully updating the A7s, I moved on to the A6000 but tried in vain (fortunately!) to use the A7s updater, thinking it was the A6000’s. All is now well. Embarrassing but all’s well that ends well, I guess.

  3. Hi! I have tried to install the Driver Loader as described above (to my MacBook 10.10.2). But every time I enter password for admin account, and click “Ok”, the program terminates, and shuts down… I have a Nex 6 camera.

Any tips, am I doing something wrong..?

    Hope you can help… 🙂
