Ultimate Guide to Sony Lens Adapters

UPDATED: July 16, 2021 / ORIGINAL: August 9, 2014

One of the best features of mirrorless cameras is, that due to their extremely thin body design, it’s possible to mount a huge array of lenses on them using lens mount adapters and still achieve infinity focus. Unless otherwise noted, the adapters listed here are essentially hollow tube spacers than make up the differences in body depth.

If you’re looking for adapters for Sony a7, a7R, a7S, a7II, a7RII, a7SII fullframe mirrorless cameras to take advantage of the full angle of view of legacy lenses, you should AVOID adapters marked ‘Speed Booster’ or ‘Turbo’ as these adapters convert the fullframe image down to APS-C.

I tested a wide array of lens mount adapters while writing ‘Sony A7/A7R: From Snapshots to Great Shots‘ and compiling my Guide to Sony a7/a7R/a7S/a7II/a7RII Lens Mount Adapters. These third-party lens adapter manufacturers have worked closely with Sony:

Metabones lens adapters hit the sweet mid-point between price and quality
Novoflex lens adapters are premium lens mount adapters – at a premium price.
Voigtlander lens adapters offer premium quality with a few unique features not found on other adapters.
FotodioX lens adapters offers an extremely wide range of adapters at a very good price.
Vello lens adapters offer well made adapters at bargain prices.

Here’s an alphabetical round-up of lens adapters for Sony E-Mount cameras including Sony a7, a7R, a7S, a7II, a7RII, a7SII, a6300, a6000, a5100, a5000 and NEX still and video cameras along with links to retailers who I use and trust:

Canon EF to Sony E-Mount Auto Focus Smart Adapters

Two Autofocus Canon EF and EF-S lens Smart Adapters stand out above the rest.

Metabones-Smart-Adapter-IV-lens-adapterMetabones Canon EF to Sony E-Mount T Smart Adapter V ($399)
Metabones is the original – and most popular – AF Smart lens adapter for Canon EOS to Sony E-mount. This is my adapter of choice as it’s the only Smart Adapter that gets regular user-installable firmware updates that improve AF performance with many Canon EF lenses not supported by cheaper adapters.

Sigma-MC-11-lens-adapterSigma MC-11 EF Mount Converter for Sony E-mount ($249)
Enables all native AF functions including Eye AF, Lock-on AF and Video AF with Sigma EF-mount Art, Contemporary and Sport lenses on Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. This adapter also supports auto-exposure, in-camera lens correction, in-camera image stabilization and retains full EXIF data. Interior is flocked to reduce reflections. An integrated LED can be used to display select Sigma lens compatibility with the adapted camera body. This adapter also gets user-installable firmware updates, but please note that Sigma firmware updates are aimed on improving performance of Sigma EF lenses – not Canon or other brands.

Budget Canon EF Smart Adapters

I STRONGLY recommend the first two adapters listed above, but I’m often asked for ‘budget options’. Here are two options that work fairly well with most lenses – but unlike Metabones and Sigma MC-11, these adapters are NOT as consistent across the entire line of EF glass.

  6. Do you know:
    (1) What camera features are lost and retained when A-mount lenses are used on E/FE-mount cameras? For example, does eye detect focus still work?
    (2) Do MFT lenses give good results on A6000?
    Thanks

  7. You missed the original PL and PV mounts for E-mount, made by Hot Rod Cameras. I’ve used 16×9 and MTF above and have never found a better mount than the ones built by Hot Rod.

  8. Dear Brian
I just got a Sony A6000 for xmas and I’m looking for lenses but a bit confused. I have a Canon EF 28-105 USM and it is a good option but I’m also looking for old Zeiss (or Leica) lenses with M42 bayonette (autofocus is not always important) and these has good price on ebay.de. for example: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Carl-Zeiss-MC-Sonnar-135mm-F-3-5-Objektiv-fur-M42-/111547621239?pt=DE_Foto_Camcorder_Objektive&hash=item19f8c19f77

What do You recommend? Shall I continue with more Canon lens and buy an adapter or switch to another type like Nikon, Zeiss, Pentax? (because I have to buy an adapter anyway)
    Thanks!

    1. You may want to give your Canon lens a try with the Viltrox adapter listed here. AF isn’t speedy but at least it cimmunicates the electronic data and lets you adjust Aperture.

  9. Hello Brian,

I’m totally a newbie with the passion for portrait and landscape photography and I’m looking for affordable Lens for my Sony A6000. What do you recommend? Is there any single Len that could fit my both requirement?

    Appreciate your advice!

      1. Yes, I agree totally and enjoy the E 16-70 lens with my new A6500 very much. Do you have an idea how I could connect my beloved Panasonic 14-140 MFT lens (GH4) to the A6000 family? I tried the Fotodiox MFT / NEX adapter and it did not work.
I would appreciate your help very much.

  10. I have an A7r and are considering the Commlite adapter which seems not to be in your list. Any thoughts or information on this adapter?

  11. Hi, which of the adaptors allows for a ‘stabilized’ Tamron or Sigma lens to work with full stabilization on an e-mount (NEX-7 and A7)… either Nikon or Canon mount? (I realize the Sony mount lens does not include stabilization.) Thanks for your help … this comprehensive overview of adaptors is invaluable.

    1. Depending on the paticilar lens, some Canon lenses (generally newer ones) will work with in lend VR.

But Nikon adapters are passive meaning there is ni communication between body & lens.

Your best bet is to either stick to naive E-mount OSS lenses or to go with A7II and use the in-body SteadyShot.

  12. Hi Brian,
I own a Sony a7s with Metabones Canon EF to Sony E-Mount Smart Adapter IV, as well as a Tiffen 82mm Variable Neutral Density ND Filter and step up rings.
I am mostly using manual focus Nikkor lenses that have manual aperture rings (Canon adapters on them from when I was using these lenses on my Canon camera).
I’m beginning to think that The Fotodiox Vizelez ND Throttle Adapter would be better suited for me so I would not have to frequently switch the ND filter to each lens and there is no electronic communication between the lens and camera anyway.
Could you share your thoughts on this?

  13. Hi, I want to know is Canon 400 mm f 5.6 lens can be attached with SONY DSLR cameras, if possible then what about the auto focus ? Is there any adaptor available in the market ? Also in opposite side is Sony Alpha lenses are possible to attached with Canon EOS cameras specially with 50D ?

  14. Hello,
Be careful, the Voigtlander M Mount to Sony E Mount Adapter is not 100% compatible with Full Frame camera (A7, A7r, A7s, A7 mkII, etc..).
It has initialy be designed for APS-C camera (Nex, etc…), not for FF.
Due to a little plastic ring Inside of the adapter that reduces the overall diameter, you’ll have vignetting on FF camera.
The more expensive Voigtlander VM-E Close Focus M Mount to Sony E-Mount Adapter doesn’t have this drawback.
    Hope this helps.

  15. Will IS work on: Canon 24-70 f4 IS, Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC and Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS (mark I) on Viltrox Auto-focus Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Sony E Mount Adapter II on A7S?

    1. “Theoretically” third party in-lens Image Stabilization will function when using Smart Adapters such as Viltrox. While Sony has no official comment on third-party lenses but they do tell you to turn off in-lens IS when using third-party IS lenses on A7II with IBIS SteadyShot – which basically says yes.

  16. My A7 II finally arrived today (sans Sony back-ordered lens). I attached my Canon 50 mm lens using the Viltrox EF-NEX II adapter. Unfortunately, there is no auto-focus — when I go to “Focus Mode” in the menu it tells me “Invalid with this lens.” But … thanks to Focus Peaking it’s not really that much of a problem.

  18. I find your website invaluable Brian. It takes the learning curve with new gear half way up the ladder instead of starting at the bottom rung. Just the info on setting up my A7R has saved me hundreds of wasted ‘clicks’, and your in-depth explanation of ‘how to’ must save many wasted hours playing with new gear. Your advice is greatly valued.

  19. Hi Brian.

Firstly thanks so much for all the reviews and work you have put in to this. It’s been extremely useful reading since I took delivery of my A7. I just ordered a Canon FD 20mm f2.8 and I wanted to check, the Fotodiox $30 FD – E adaptor that you mention on this pafe – does it cover full frame or will the image be cropped? On the Fotodiox website it says it is compatible with A7 but it doesn’t say it works to full frame. Your guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

    1. Thanks Ben. When Fotodiox says their adapters are compatibles with A7 it means that fullframes lenses will cover the fullframe sensor. Canon FD lenses date back to the film era so to the best of my knowledge all FD lenses – and certainly the FD 20mm F2.8 – will cover fullframe.

For fullframe a7 series bodies just avoid adapters called ‘Speed Booster’ or ‘Turbo’ as they’re negative conversion lenses designed to convert a fullframe images down to APS-C. Which is why those adapters are not listed here.

  32. I’m looking for an adapter so I can use Sony e-mount lens on Sony Alpha 350 camera (A mount). No auto focusing is acceptable. Does anybody know what this adapter is and where I can get one? Thanks a lot.

  33. Hello brian,
I am very much interested in buying sony a7r2 but i can’t afford sony lenses now. So i was thinking to buy body only with sigma mc 11 adapter and sigma 35mm or 50mm 1.4 art lenses. Along with that i was thinking to use Canon 70-200 f2.8 2nd version, 24-105, and 50mm f1.8 and other canon lenses.
My purpose is wedding, portrait and landscape photography.
Can you please help me on this?

    1. That sounds like a pretty good plan for now. MC-11 should do well with the Art lenses, though I can’t vouch for the Canon glass which might be a bit better with Metabones Smart Adapter IV

  34. Hi Brian,

    Brilliant article!

Have got a question though – I just purchased a PK-NEX adapter for my a7sii and unfortunately it’s a tight fit. It stays on and I have no problem shooting with it but the fit is not seamless and I’d like to rectify that.

I bought the adapter from K&F Concept (via Amazon)… not the greatest of brands, I know. Although it says NEX, I assume it should fit on any e-mount Sony camera. I’ve done some searching and it seems like the a7sii’s full metal mount is the problem. I’m wondering if a precise fit would be a problem with a more expensive brand – and ultimately is it worth the investment?

    1. I advise sticking with the brands on this list for just that reason. While a slightly tight fit is much better than wobbly, many cheap adapters not listed here aren’t made to correct tolerances. Sometimes they work sometimes they don’t.

  35. Hi Brian,

A wealth of information you provide… greatly appreciated! I was wondering if you plan to test the Sigma MC 11 adapter? I noticed that it was preorder when you started the adapters review and it is now in stock. I have been using the Metabones adapter with my a7r2 and several Canon lenses… 16-35, 24-105 L, 100-400, and 600 f4. The auto focus works on all of them. The Sigma 150-600 Sport also plays well with the Sony – Metabones. I decided to purchase the Sigma 24-105 (Canon) rather than the 24-105 II which has yet to hit the shelves. Though I have only shot a hand full of frames, it seems to auto focus well on the A7r2 and the digital magnified manual focus works too. I purchased the MC11 as well but managed to order the wrong mount so I am waiting for the exchange to show up. I may have wasted my money since I already have the Metabones, but Sigma promises full Sony functionality and is much cheaper than the Metabones.

I will soon have my own observations, which I will share, but I would still be curious to read your expert opinion if and when you publish it.

Thanks again for your offering so much of your expertise!

    1. I’ve been less impressed with MC-11 than other reviewers. While it does perform quite well with certain lenses, Metabones is much more consistent across the line and Metabones keeps updating their firmware on almost a monthly basis. When you get your MC-11, test it out and see what you think with your lenses.

  36. Hello Brian,
Thank you for the wealth of information.
Is there an adapter to use manual sigma lens on a sony e-mount camera?
    thank you

  37. Hi, Brian: I need your help, I bought a Novoflex M to E mount and Leica 90mm f2.8 Elmarit-M lense mounted on my new Sony a6500, look like the focus magnifier and 5 axs stabilization not working ??
    thanks for your time
    Steven

    1. Automatic Focus Assist won’t work with lenses that don’t have an electronic connection. However you CAN assign Focus Magnification to one of the Custom Buttons like C1 or C2 and simply press that to zoom in.

Also, since there is no electronic connection with that lens, you must manually set SteadyShot focal length for that lens:

Menu > Camera Settings > SteadyShot Settings > SteadyShot Adjust > Manual
Menu > Camera Settings > SteadyShot Settings > SteadyShot Focal Length > 90mm

Don’t forget to change SteadyShot Adjust back to Auto when you switch to a lens with an electronic connection.

  38. Hi, Brian
I need your help, I have minolta 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 apo zoom lens (sony a-mount). which adapters are available for this lens except that la-ea3 and la-ea4?
    thanks for your time

  39. Hello Brian,

I need a help, I have a sony A58, its A-mount camera. How can i use Canon or Nikon Lenses on this camera ..?

  40. Hi Brian,
I bought a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 vc lens to use with my a77m2 and a7m2. While using the lens on my a77m2 the focus is very fast. Unfortunately the Tamron lens hunts badly on my a7m2. I am using the Sony A mount to FE mount adapter with the number 3 in the model name. I can’t recall all of the letters. I didn’t expect the to get the same speed as my a7m2 camera gets. I also did not expect the camera lens combo to go to both focal extremes before finding the focus on any object every time. It is agonizingly slow. I didn’t get the 4 model because I am using my full frame camera to photograph college gymnastics from the stands. The marginal lighting and speed of the gymnasts put my right on the edge of ISO, shutter speed, and f stop. Is there a camera focal setting that works best for that situation.

    1. VC might be the issue. I turn that off on Tamron EF lenses because it sucks power away from AF, and simply let the camera handle IBIS. But unfortunately I don’t think it works the same on A-mount lenses with VC.

  41. Hello again Brian,

About an hour after I first tried the focus with my new Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 I went outside again and tried my Tamron 150-600 which worked pretty well and then I tried my Tamron 70-200 again. This time it was pretty fast. I don’t get it. Why would it not work in cloudy daylight and then an hour later with the same settings and lighting conditions work very well? I must have focused on 20 things and different ranges and it always worked. I think I may be wasting your time. Thanks for all the information about Sony gear. It helps.

    Jeff

  42. Brian,

It’s really odd how this all works. This morning I tried the focus again with my Tamron 70-200 vc lens on my a7m2. For the first ten attempts it did the the extreme focus hunt. I then turned on a bright lamp and it started focusing quickly again. I turned off the lamp and the fast focus still worked. It’s like the whole system needed some sort of warmup. I suppose the more complicated the system is the more ways there are for the system to make errors. The whole thing seems a bit weird to me but I will find a way to work with it. When this combination of camera/adapter/lens works it works very well. Thanks for your reply

    Jeff

    1. That’s quite possible. Bo Ming from Metabones explains that their Smart Adapter IV must ‘learn’ AF during a brief break-in period with each new lens or after updating adapter firmware.

  43. Hi Brian,
I wonder if you could suggest a decent relatively cheap adapter for my old 1/3″ bayonet system fujinon lens from my old JVC GYHD 100 to my new Sony FS 5 (e mount)?
    Hope you can help…
    Thank you in advance
    Paul

  44. Hello Brian, I recently switched my Canon 70D to a Sony A6300 but still have a Canon 50mm f/1.4 and Sigma 24 f/1.4 Art Lens for Canon and was wondering, is the Metabones Mark IV adapter the best option? Because there are so many metabones adapters that it confuses me. I mainly shoot lifestyle/travel photographs and shoot many slowmo cinematography of travelling. Thanks so much!

    1. For a6300, you have two choices that both function equally well.

Metabones Canon EF to Sony E-Mount Smart Adapter IV is a “straight” converter that will work either for Sony APS-C cameras like a6300 or fullframe a7-series.

Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Speed Booster ULTRA is a 0.71x focal reducer (essentially the opposite of a teleconverter) that uses lens elements to reduce the image from a fullframe down to APS-C format – picking up a stop of light in the process.

I prefer the straight Metabones Canon EF to Sony E-Mount Smart Adapter IV since it’s compatible with fullframe and a 50mm remains a 50mm…

  45. Brian,
Thank you for the info. I just bought a SONY A6300 and I have a canon EF 24-105 kit lens and a 50mm 1.8 EF lens.

I plan to use the camera more often in video recording mode than in photoshoot mode. I heard that Metabone made adaptor MIV is probably the best to use (but very pricey). However, I wonder if you recommend an alternative choice for me. ( I would like to use the full capability of the AF as I will be using it to video in studio Latin Dances)

    1. You won’t get full capability video AF with any adapted lens. AF can perform great for stills – but totally crap out for video. I HIGHLY recommend sticking to native FE Sony or Zeiss lenses for video.

  46. I just purchased a Sony a7 camera body and don’t have any FF lenses for it. I have lenses from my a5000 and some older Minolta Maxxum AF prime lenses. I’m wondering what would be the best adapter for those older lenses to achieve full frame and autofocus. I would think the Sony LA-EA4 A-Mount to E-Mount FF Lens Adapter would be best since it has the AF motor. Any advice would be helpful and appreciated. I am not a professional by any means–just a mom who wants to take better pics of her kids! 🙂 I am learning and learned a lot from reading and watching your reviews. TYa

  47. Do you think the Minolta Maxxum lenses are good to use? I have Minolta MD lenses available also. I don’t really know the difference or sure of what I should use. I really don’t want to invest thousands in FF lenses until I learn my camera and make sure I will like it. TY

    1. Minolta MD are manual focus MD-mount. Minolta Maxxum are AF A-mount lenses. They’re both good values – just not at the same level as the current FE lenses.

  48. Thank you for clarifying. If I buy the Sony La-EA4 adapter for the Minolta lenses, will my Sony a7 register as 24MP instead of 10MP (crop lenses).

    1. LA-EA4 covers fullframe – so as long as you’re using a fullframe lens – the lens will cover fullframe.

Just be aware that LA-EA4 uses it’s own 15-point phase-detection AF system instead of the a7’s 117-point phase-detection AF system.

Hi Brian, I have a Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2,8 Di lens for Canon EF (used with Canon EOS 550D) and I want to try it with my Sony Nex-7. What adapter do you recommend? (not too expensive). It should be able to let me adjust the aperture in camera.

  50. I have a Sony a6000 and I bought an old Minolta af beer can lens, and I’m having a hard time finding what adapter to use..

  51. Hi! I got the fotodiox ef-sny(e) adaptor, when I use it with my canon 50mm 1.4 usm I only get 15mp out of it, sot it crops. My camera is the sony A7r, so i should get 36mp. What do I do wrong?

  52. Hey there and thanks for the awesome list.

I plan to get a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 SP Di MACRO 1:1 for my a6000.
    Which adapter do you recommend?

    Cheers

Hello, I have 3 lenses carl Zeiss Cp2 PL mount 35mm,50mm,85mm and I’d like to adapter to EF mount in canon 5Dmark4 with it’s the best adapter bet win price and quality?
    Thaks for your help.

  54. Hi Brian,

    Great website!

I have a A7II with the kit lens i find native FE-lensen too expensive for now.
I am planning to buy zoomlenses and wide angle lenses. Do you suggest canon lenses or Minolta/ A- mount lenses for best price quality and autofocus functionality?

    Thanks for your help.

    1. Definitely not Minolta A-mount as they require LA-EA4 in order to get AF which drops down to 15-point PDAF.

Canon EF mount are my second choice – but Native Sony E-mount lenses are sharper and offer better performance.

Don’t be in a rush to buy too many lenses too fast.

  55. Hello Brian

Do you know an adapter that will takes Leica T lenses to Sony E-mount?

    Best regards

    1. I’m not aware of any and I doubt anyone will make one.

Leica T lenses are Micro 43rd for quarter frame sensor cameras. They won’t even cover APS-C and only cover 1/4 of a fullframe sensor – so they are not a good choice for larger sensors used in Sony cameras.

If that wasn’t enough, they’d require a Smart Adapter to control focus and aperture which generally requires an adapter be at least 20mm thick – yet M43 > E-mount adapters could be no thicker than 1.25mm to maintain infinity focus.

  56. Sir, Please let me know if there is any kind of lens adapter for Sony Alpha 3500. I have searched a lot and cant find none. Please help me solve this crisis

  57. Hi Brian great job you’re doing here !!we feel the passion…
    i am a beginner … i plan on buying a sony a5100/a6000 very soon,
and today my father in law gave 2 Sigma lenses:

    – Sigma UC ZOOM 70/210 Ø52mm
    -Sigma ZOOM MASTER 35/70 Ø52mm
when i search about those lenses the only mount system i find in common is Pentax K ..

    is it right??

are they good lenses deserving to be kept, and used with (not cheap) adapters

and about adapters, is there a real quality difference between the $50 one and the $179 and more ones ?

    best regards

          1. Thank you very much for that quick and precise answer mister !!

in fact i can remember he did mention the 70/210 was (as he said) “motorized”
so AF i think …but the 35/70 was manual …so MF if i get it right…
thank you again for clearing that mud of new informations

            Best regards
A Music gear geek guy but noob in visual arts

  58. Hi Brian,
I love your work and tutorials, you post for Sony users.
    Excellent job!
I would like to ask what adapter will you command for canon to Sony E mount, that will have a proper snag fit. I got one on ebay, for a very low price, but the automatic function is not at its best. I’m OK to use manual focus, but bothers me the sloppy mount of the lens to the adapter and the adapter to the Sony A6300 body. I used a rubber band over the lens and adapter to protect from the dust and cut on the sloppy mount.
Your reply would be very much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Nick

    1. Thanks Nick. My Number One Recommendation is Metabones T Smart Adapter IV/V (Check Price Here). Metabones updates their firmware almost every month and both the IV and V receive the same firmware updates but the newer V has a few nice physical updates. The general complaint is that it’s a but snug right out of the box which I far prefer to ‘sloppy”.

Other people like Sigma MC-11 Mount Converter (Check Price Here) far more than I do. I find it works quite well with certain Sigma branded lenses – yet mysteriously badly misfocuses with other ‘supported’ like the Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens and is hit-or-miss with Canon glass.

The only “budget-priced” adapter I can recommend with the caveat that they DON’T update their firmware is FotodioX Canon EF Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Pro Fusion Smart AF Adapter (Check Price Here). It makes sense if you’re adapting budget lenses – but pony up for Metabones if your lenses cost over a grand…

  59. Hi Brian! Wonderful page! I was wondering, I’m a real beginner looking to getting started with a Sony A7II and have already got an FE 28-70 lens. I’m really wanting to do long distance wildlife shots, and a I’m still at uni and strapped for cash, I was hoping to get your advice on a cheap but relatively non-problematic zoom lens. I’m looking at the Tamron AF 70-300mm, as it is full frame and only costs $150. However, I am a bit confused about whether this lens is my best option and in addition what adaptor to use that would be as low cost as possible. Thanks so much!!!

    1. I’ll be honest, I don’t believe any $150 70-300mm lens is up the the optical standards of a7II. Better to save for good glass and build quality slowly than to rush to add sub-par lenses too quickly.

  60. Hi Brian,
Am I the only person who wants to adapt an E-Mount lens to a Canon EOS-M body, and still unable to find a way? If anyone can help me I am sure you are the one.

    1. First off…WHY??? Both Sony a6300 and
a6500 kick the living crap out of any Canon EOS-M camera.

Next, it’s impossible. You’d need a Smart Adapter in order to control aperture and focus and since both camera mounts have an 18mm Focal Flange Distance the smart Adapter would need to be ZERO MM thick. So, like I said, impossible…

      Stick to E-mount…

  61. Hi! Brian,
I am most grateful for the wealth of info. that you have provided and encouraged me to buy Sony A7R and then Sony A7R ii with Metabones adapter iv which I updated to firmware 0.57.

I would be indebted for your advice as to whether I should buy again Canon 70-200 mm f4, which I lost recently, or now buy Sony 70-200 mm f4 . I loved the optical quality of the canon lens. I am into Landscapes and have recently developed interest in Sports/Action for which I may buy Sony A6500. Although, Canon 70-200 does Eye-AF and Lock-on-focus in advanced mode of Metabones but, is it as good as Sony native lens?
Your advice would be most valuable for me and please accept my profound thanks for the same.
    Kind regards,
    Mukesh

  62. Hi! Brian,

Many thanks for your prompt response.
Would the Sony lens also be sharper than the Canon ‘L’ lens on A7Rii?

    Thanks

    Mukesh

      1. Thank you very much. Sony 90 Macro is just amazing – I am addicted to it!
Hopefully the glass of Sony 70-200 f4 would be better or as good as the Canon 70-200 f4 ‘L’ lens.

  66. Brian – you mention that the Commlite Nikon F to Sony E Autofocus Electronic Lens Adapter will work “best with a7II, a7RII, a6300 and E-type and G-type Nikon AF lenses – but not with many of the earlier D-Type lenses”. How do you think that adapter would work on a Sony a9 with my NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens?

    1. Like the other cameras in that list, a9 also offers PDAF with adapted lenses. However…according to release notes for the latest firmware update 05, the adapter may not yet optimized for all lenses on Sony a9. In other words, it may not be able to track AF accurately at 10 FPS (the max shooting speed for AF with adapted lenses).
