  1. System Requirements

    Operating Systems
The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following Macintosh versions:

    Mac OS X v.10.10 – 10.11 / macOS 10.12*
    * macOS 10.13 is not supported.

I wonder if Sony could change their system to one like Canon, where we upgrade via the SD card, this current Sony system is a little frustrating to say the least.
    #notsupported

  2. Be careful with this firmware update.
I installed it onto a brand new A7r III using Windows 10.
The installed crashed at around 60% complete 🙁
I ran the installer again and it went all the way to 1000% and crashed again.
Then I ran it a third time and it said I was already at the latest version.
However, the red light stayed on for 10 minutes until I bravely just turned off the camera and pulled the battery.

This is not what I would expect from Sony and it was pretty scary to think I could have bricked a brand new camera 🙁
Luckily it came back up running 1.01

      1. It stopped at that point anyway and wouldn’t proceed.
It’s just a bit scary that their firmware is this flaky?

BTW, can you ask Sony to add back the ‘Deactivate Monitor’ menu item please?
This was one of my most used functions, tied to C4. Now I have to use DISP and 3 presses to achieve this.

I also have had numerous instances of the camera showing a black rectangle with ‘Unable to write to memory card’ when shooting continuous and swapping between normal and crop mode via C1.

        Cheers

  3. Brian, do you know if we can do the a7R III firmware update using Windows 10 running on Parallels on a Mac running High Sierra?

As suggested before, doing firmware updates via SD card would eliminate this OS issue. Sony, please change this.

  4. Installed flawlessly on the first attempt and I don’t know anything about Sony camera firmware. I am used to many Canon firmware update and it is easy on Windows 1 with a USB cable.

  5. After reading some of the comments I was a bit scared to mess with this upgrade, but I’m happy to say that it was a fast process and successful. Thanks.

  6. I somehow missed this firmware update. And now the update file is no longer available on the Sony eSupport. Can I skip right to 1.10 Firmware?
