Hi Brian, I can’t tell from the pics or the press release if the 110mm is a 1:1 or 1:2 reproduction ratio macro! Thanks!
I agree that it’s impossible to see that in the photos, however a bit of digging tells me that 1:1 magnification is possible at the 13.62 inches (35 cm) minimum focus distance.
Thank you!
EPIC! The 110mm liveth! Think of it as the Voigtlander 125mm 2.5 back from the dead. It’s a legend reborn.
Can’t wait to get my hands on it….
Hi Brian,
I liked the the 110mm F2.5 Macro lens and would like to have your opinion whether to buy this for my next Sony a7III or for my Nikon D5 and use it with Sony with converter?
Murad
First off, there’s no Sony E > Nikon F converter since it would require locking up Nikon mirror and mounting the lens over one inch inside the body.
Second, unless you’re in love with manual focus, I’d personally choose the sharpest macro DxO ever tested: FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS
Thanks Brian,
The FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS is on my next purchase list from B&H.
My only issues with the Sony 90 for serious 1:1 macro work are fly by wire focus and every bit of extra working distance and narrower background coverage is welcome. For this reason the Nikon 200mm f/4D with an adapter is still the best solution for serious 1:1 macro work on the Sony system. It is has a mechanical focus ring and an aperture ting like the new Voigtlander and more than double the working distance of the Sony.
I own the Sony 90mm G lens and it is indeed excellent, though Voightlander lenses are in a class by themselves with far superior build quality and overall better microcontrast, color rendition, and “character,” at least IMO. I love both the 40mm 1.2 as well as the 65mm 2.0 for Sony e. Thank you.
