Vello Firmware Update V4 for LAE-SE-NF Nikon F to Sony E-Mount Auto Lens Adapter

Vello has released Firmware Update V4 for Vello LAE-SE-NF Nikon F to Sony E-Mount Auto Lens Adapter.
Here’s what you need to do to update:

CHECK THE CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION

1. Turn off your Sony camera.
2. Attach the LAE-SE-NF adapter.
3. Attach a Nikon lens to the adapter.
4. Turn on your camera and locate the Setup menu. Menu > Setup > Version
5. In the Setup menu, select Version and press the Set button.
6. Identify the Lens setting for the current firmware version of the adapter, and the Body setting for the current firmware version of your Sony camera. If these versions do not match what is currently listed on the Vello website, proceed to updating your lens adapter and camera. If you need to update your Sony camera body, please do so from the support page on Sony’s website.

UPDATING THE VELLO LAE-SE-NF FIRMWARE

Before updating the firmware, make sure your camera has a fully charged battery. Connect your Sony mirrorless camera using the original USB cord supplied with your camera.

Download either the Windows or Mac Software Upgrade.

Windows:

1. Download the folder Vello LAE-SE-NF V04 Update for Windows.zip, and save it to your computer.
2. Double-click the folder to open, and double-click the file Vello LAE-SE-NF V04.exe to launch the software updater.
3. Follow the instructions within the software updater.

Mac:

1. Download the folder Vello LAE-SE-NF V04 Update for Mac, and save it to your computer.
2. Double-click the folder to open, and double-click the file Vello LAE-SE-NF V04.dmg to launch the software updater.
3. Follow the instructions within the software updater.

Note: If there is a problem opening the software updater, open your Mac’s System Preferences, and click the Security & Privacy icon. If your settings are locked, click the lock in the bottom left corner of the window, and enter the admin password. Locate the heading Allow apps downloaded from, and select Anywhere. Remember to change these preferences back to your original settings after the update.

  1. Installed and done a quick test on my A7RII. The updating process is a bit quirky but it worked. None of the Nikkor lenses I currently own are listed on the compatibility chart, nevertheless here is what I found. Note I don’t have a stop watch or any test equipment, it’s only what I found pointing the camera with continuous focus at various things in the garden and pressing the shutter. 50mm 1.4 G – perfect. 16-35mm f4 – perfect. 85mm 1.4 seemed slightly slower than native but very usable. 70-200 f2.8 no attempt at focusing, but when pre- focused manually it locked on nicely – no hunting like it did with the earlier firmware. So, pretty happy with the update and hopefully in time with future updates it will be as good as the Techart Pro is for the M mount.
