Sony has released a software update that shortens start up time of select FE full-frame E-mount lenses including SEL35F28Z, SEL55F18Z, SEL2470Z, SEL2870 and SEL70200G when mounted on Sony E-mount camera bodies. An additional software release for lens performance will be available in late March.
Improvements:
This update provides the ‘Quick Start’ function.
Notes:
This is a lens update – not camera update. You must run each updates one at a time with the lens attached to a supported E-mount body (NEX-5, NEX-3, NEX-C3, NEX-VG10 or PXW-FS7 are not supported). You can install all the updates from a single supported E-mount camera body and it will be compatible with all the E-mount bodies you own.
Sony SEL1635Z and SELP28135G and lenses released after October 2014 already have the “Quick start” function and thus do not need to be updated.
First check to make certain your lens is not already upgraded to version 02
Menu > Setup > Version > Lens
If the Lens is version 01 (or less) you should run the update.

Each lens has it’s own firmware patch so it you have all five listed FE lenses you’ll need to download an install the appropriate firmware for each. This is a lens update only so it will work with any supported E-mount camera body – you don’t need to do it for each.
