Sony has released firmware update 1.10 for the Sony A9. It’s currently available on the Sony Australia Support website. [UPDATE (9/28/17): Firmware update is now posted on the Sony USA Support website.]
Improvements in Sony a9 Firmware Update FW 1.10:
• Supports ‘Eye AF’ function for A-mount lenses via the LA-EA3 mount adapter (This function is only for A-mount lenses which can adapt to 8 or 10 fps (maximum) tracking AF-C shooting.
• Fixes an issue where RAW files may disappear when SDXC or microSDXC memory cards are used in certain smartphones (Raw data recorded by the ILCE-9 with firmware Ver. 1.00 or 1.01 could disappear. Please backup your raw data files, even if you’re updating the system software to Ver. 1.10.)
• Improves the image quality and overall stability of the camera.
[Please Note: “improves image quality” refers to in-camera Noise Reduction and Jpeg rendering]
• Adds TTL & HSS support for Profoto Air Remote TTL-S for Sony with Profoto B1, B1X, B2 & D2 flashes at shutter speeds up to 1/8000th of a second.

if you updated your mac os to high sierra you are out of luck…. updater incompatible
Seriously??? Are you a first time Mac User??? This happens EVERY time Apple releases a new OS.
NEVER, EVER, EVER update Mac OS until at least version .02!!! And then only when you’re absolutely certain it plays well with others.
🙂 Oh yea very seriously….. Got my first mac in 1990, and I have more than one machine… By the way 10.13 is the first update that did not mess up the Epson drivers, SC-P 9000, SC-P 800, SC-P600, WF-7620 all OK. So far only glitch is the Australian Sony installer…
I like your page very much, all the best
Now Support Profoto TTL-S
Bueno! A bonus extra!!!
Is there any difference between the AU update and US updates?
They’re usually posted simultaneously. USA posted today. It’s possible Australia jumped the gun…

Can’t stand the stupid way in which Sony implements these firmware updates. Let me copy the firmware to a card and put card in camera to do an update like how Nikon and Canon and most manufacturers do. Plugging my camera into a computer via USB? For real? How primitive and clunky! I recently updated to High Sierra and now I cannot update my A9! Why isn’t it compatible? Seems like simple enough software that should not get hung up on an OS update.
That will ALWAYS happen with full Mac OS updates. As a Mac user since 1984, I NEVER update until at least version .02 or .03
Hey Brian, I just posted on the Artisan FB Page: I installed the new firmware for the a9 and am now getting a 1/3rd bump in sync speed with my Speedotron 2403 WS lights at San Jose’s SAP Arena. When I originally tested back in May, the best I could get was 1/160th. We NHL and NBA Arena Shooters, most of whom work with Speedos need a minimum of 1/250th, so we are only .3rd stop away. Can you see this happening from a firmware fix? I’m so eager to use the a9 exclusively for hockey but need to know it will freeze everything with the proper sync. One-third stop – we are knocking on the door!
Hey Don, let me guess, are you possibly using Pocket Wizard to trigger your Speedo packs? If so, that’s your culprit.
While the tech used in our cameras and lights has leaped forward, Pocket Wizard remotes are as cutting edge as 1960s garage door openers.
I also noticed 1/3 stop bump from 1/200 to 1/250 in standard sync mode (and up to 1/8000 in HSS mode) with Profoto Air Remote TTL-S for Sony. While they only work with Profoto Air Remote flashes is does point out that the 1/3 shutter speed delay is caused by Pocket Wizard – not a9.
There’s gotta be something that works better than Pocket Wizard’s low-tech solution. Maybe Pixel King might work…
