I was extremely impressed with Irix lens construction when I met with their reps at Photo Plus Expo in New York this week. Irix cine lenses have extremely smooth focus that you’d expect on a cine prime lens priced considerably more. Irix lenses feature Swiss lens design, lens elements produced in Japan and assembly in South Korea.
All Irix cine prime lenses feature magnetic lens hood mount which will provide support for future accesories including a line-up of magnetic filters. Irix 150mm T3 Macro lens is just the first of the full cine line they have planned that includes the Irix 11mm T4.3 and 45mm T1.5 cine prime lenses

Irix Cine 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 ($1,195 from Amazon | B&H Photo | Adorama) is the first lens in a new line of full frame sensor cine lenses, ready for 8K UHD. Its complex optical design is based on the design used in the Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1. The lens features 12 optical elements in 9 groups, four of which are high refractive index (HR) glass, and three low-dispersion glass (ED). Because of these elements, this lens offers superb high resolution, nearly zero chromatic aberration and virtually no visible distortion. The optical system is equipped with an internal focusing system. The lens was designed to have as little breathing as possible.
Featuring a high precision focus mechanism for quiet and smooth rotation of the focus ring thanks to the new MST lens positioning system – created specially for the Irix Cine range. The Multi Start Thread mechanism, in combination with a sealed housing, ensures durable and long-term operation of the lens in various atmospheric conditions even in the most demanding situations. The rotation angle of the focus ring is increased to 270 degrees, which makes focusing easy and accurate at any range. The lens will be available with both metric and imperial markings.
Eleven iris blades with rounded edges create great bokeh and sharpness. The Irix Cine 150mm also significantly reduces the diffraction effect when filming at low aperture values. The de-clicked aperture ranges from T3.0 to T32. The aperture ring rotates 75 degrees.
Side edges of the focus gear-rings are shielded by a special ring, providing a larger area for better manual handling – while still compatible with follow-focus systems. Lens markings are laser engraved and treated with UV fluorescent paint, to improve the readability in low light conditions.
The Irix Cine 150 mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 has been designed as to withstand various weather conditions. The housing is equipped with several seals to create a barrier for dust and rain. The sealed construction ensures the safety of both the optical lens system and the camera sensor.
