Elliott Erwitt and me at the PDN Annual Awards…’nuff said…
I’m deeply honored to have won a PDN Annual Award for photography websites for the second time in three years. We’re extremely grateful for outstanding reception our newly re-designed or photography website has received.
In addition to PDN’s Award, briansmith.com landed accolades from the One Eyeland Awards. WordPress Showcase highlighted us on their showcase of WordPress-powered websites. We’re currently the second ranked website on their showcase, right behind Mr. Right Stuff Chuck Yeager’s official website.
It was a bit of a ballsy move to rip up a photography website that PDN honored in 2011 and start from scratch, but time marches on. Once we came to the realization that Apple would never support Flash, it was time to dump our old host. The goal was to give the entire site, including our blog, an integrated look that would look consistent across all platforms from desktop to iPhone.
Huge thanks to my great partners from Quadshot Software Solutions. Kudos to our project overlord Michael Cremean, Jennifer Precious Finch our Custom Style Savant and our website architect Chris Webb. You guys ROCK!
We scrapped our Flash photography website design and rebuilt using WordPress for a consistent look across all platforms including Flash-loathing iDevices – all without giving up the photo slideshows than many of you loved…
Showcasing a wide-array of out favorite portrait shoots of athletes, celebrities and the rich and fabulous.
Along with some of out favorite projects like Nude Golf photographed for Sports Illustrated.
We added better navigation than ever before with a round-up of photo galleries on our home page.
We added a section about our books ‘Secrets of Great Portrait Photography’ and ‘Art & Soul’.
And included some of the best interviews that we’ve done over the years…
Thanks for the L-O-V-E, PDN!
I’m very excited for the chance to do a completely updated presentation of the ‘Secrets of Great Portrait Photography’ at this year’s PhotoPlus Expo on October 27th in NYC. PDN’s PhotoPlus Expo is the U.S. version of Photokina – it’s a trade show and learning experience. I’ll pass along all my tips about photographing people and shooting great portraits. We had a full house last year and this year’s talk will be even better with lots of new photos and tips.

In addition to this seminars, I’ll be speaking and doing shooting demos along with all of the Sony Artisans at the Sony booth on the PhotoPlus Expo trade show floor.
My pal Tim Daly saw that I was sharing my ‘Secrets of Great Portrait Photography’ at this year’s PDN’s PhotoPlus Expo on October 27th in NYC. Naturally he’s gotta share his own, so in the interest of another point of view, here are Tim Daly’s ‘Secrets to Great Headshot Photography’
Casting Directors take note – that’s Tim’s handsome son Sam Daly in the the video with him. Sam is available for you next blockbuster and in the meantime, my go-to guy on LA Nightlife. As for Tim, he’s pretty smooth in front of a camera:
Timing is everything…the night before the deadline for this year’s competition, I decided my website could use some updating and in just a bit over an hour I was able to change the colors, sizes and layout to completely redo the look of my website to create the winning design. SWEEEEET!
Congratulations to all the 2011 PDN Photo Annual Awards winners.
