Zeiss has released a firmware update for the Batis 40mm F2 CF Fullframe E-mount Lens to improve Eye AF and aperture performance.
Advantages & Improvements
Optimization of the aperture characteristics
Improvement in focal precision when using the eye-AF function on the camera
Instructions & Download
Attach the lens to the camera before running the update for the lens firmware.
Ensure that the camera is switched off.
Remove the memory card from the camera before the update.
When updating the lens firmware, please use a fully charged NP-FW50 or NP-FZ100 battery, or the AC-PW20 power unit.
Note: The update can only be carried out if the charge status indicator still shows at least three battery symbols. Remove the portrait handle, if fitted, before updating the lens firmware.
Do not remove the battery during the update process because this may render the camera inoperable.
Prevent your computer from switching to standby mode. If your computer switches to standby mode and interrupts the update process, repeat the entire update process from the very beginning.

Still, this leaves doubt on the MTF published by Zeiss. The whole thing about this lens stopping down automatically somehow reminds of the Volkswagen software cheat.
The lens only stopped down in the Close Focus setting. MTF is measured at infinity
Has Batis created a firmware update to fix problem? I was seriously looking to this focal length for Milky Way panoramics.
Yes, this is the firmware update.
When I ran the update, my camera asked me to remove the battery in the end to complete the update. Camera was still connected to pc. This is not in Zeiss instructions.
I did as camera instructed and pc then recognised the camera as storage. After that, I disconnected the cable, inserted the battery back in and checked the lens version (now Ver.2)
Zeiss website does not tell us about camera requesting the battery to be removed!
