It would be great if you could point us to some material explaining how to actually use Sony camera as a webcam. I am trying to do it and it does not work. Also, sadly, the experience is feels like it’s 1990’s.
There is a link in the download instructions that explains set-up: https://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/app/webcam/en/instruction/index.php
As per their website: “The resolution is 1,024 × 576 pixels.”
So not very “High-quality”.
Why can the Sigma FP output 4K video for webcam and my Sony a7RIV and a7SIII can’t even handle 1080P output via their USB-C ports?
Sony’s HDMI port provides the full 4K signal (on 4K cameras) and that’s certainly your best option, but it requres used of a HDMI Video Capture Adapter.
Keep in mind that video conferencing services like Zoom and Microsoft Teams don’t actually allow you to stream 4K. They downscale it to 1080 to preserve bandwidth.
Yup. Been using a cheap $35 1080P converter via HDMI.
But it would be nice to be able to use a cleaner digital USB-C signal straight from camera.
