I have noticed the Eye AF not being as dependable with the 1.01 firmware, and I have seen several posts about the same issue. Just wondering what you have experienced or are hearing about this. Thanks!
I’ve not witnessed that, but if you can be more specific about instances where you notice this occurring, I will pass along that feedback.
My personal experience has been that with 1.01, it is less likely to lock on bird’s eye. Instead of staying locked on the eye, the eye AF indicator “dances around” on the bird’s face/body. Also, here are some comments I have gathered from the Sony A1 Shooters FB page that I participate in.
Brian G
“I’m using my 400gm and it still won’t grab an eye on the pitcher mound unless it’s sunny and even then it’s hit and miss with new 1.01 firmware. When I had the original 1.00 my camera could grab a flies eye sitting on the pitcher’s shoulder …. that’s how good it WAS. I think my a9ii has better eye af now to be honest. I can rely on that more to give me a sharper face.”
Ken M
“I had two a1’s, one with 1.01 and one with 1.00. 100% a difference, no doubt. Not subjective, easily detected.”
Vinod GS
“I have the same issue with 1.01, it was much better earlier, now af seems a bit less reliable than even my a9ii. ”
Steve D
“Would echo the views on bird eye af and dropping focus in bursts both being worse since the new firmware. Would trust my a911 more with focus tracking for birds in flight at the moment and that was not the case prior to firmware update.”
Hope this helps.
If you have not already done so, you should update to Alpha 1 firmware 1.10
