And if you still can not afford this then SEL1018 f/4 OSS at $748. In full frame mode can use at 12mm to 18mm (if light shield is removed). Also is OSS AND you can use screw on filters (UV not recommend for landscape for too much sky at 12mm). BUT is soft at the sides and corners but with processing sharpness can solve this. Good for Milky Way shots at 12mm with very little star trailing in the corners, WAY BETTER than the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 except for the brightness factor – good glass. Oh and this lens is so small you will never notice on your camera, great for wide indoor shots. And you can go to APS-C mode and get that 15 to 27 mm range if needed when on a walkabout.
Other thing can not use the lens tulip gets in the way!!!
The Sony E-mount 10-18mm F4 (tested here) was a rather nice bridge lens while Sony was building up their FE line-up, but it doesn’t hold up to the quality of the FE 12-24mm F4 G.
You are very right you get what you pay for but some may have an APS-C already and may move to FF. Also it is way smaller/lighter, threaded filters, IS and almost half the price. To get to play with an ultra-ultra wide if you have a small bank. For day shots soft on sides but crank up f/# and play with sharpness in post, for night in very dark places some redish color in vignetting areas so more play in post. Last Lr does not have the correct Lens correction for the SEL1224G, it super vignetting – very light around so you have to take that slider almost all the way to the left (how many have been returned for that). I have both and use both. The SEL1224G is a very superb lens that is as good as a prime at every turn and an f/4. But you may want small like the Voigtlander 12mm (filters also) or 10mm (chipped)(I have both also very low price at the time) and you are on a walkabout without a M2 camera and you want IS without sticks for that church, shop, spelunking, hike to streams or ship performance. Lr correction exp.
Yes a crescent moon behind but to bright around but very, very sharp stars (WOW the quality of the SEL1224G). Capture One did better!!!
