Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Sony E-Mount (Pre-Order here for $339.00) is designed for APS-C-format Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, where it provides a 45mm equivalent focal length. The bright f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also affords extensive control over focus placement for selective focus.
Optical design includes one aspherical element and one double-sided aspherical element pair to significantly reduce spherical aberrations for increased clarity and definition for notably sharp image quality. This compact prime also incorporates a stepping AF motor for smooth, near-silent autofocus performance ideal for video recording.

Hi Brian
Does this mean the lens focal length when mounted to the camera will in fact be 45mm rather than 30?
Here how it works. A 30mm lens will still be a 30mm no matter what format camera it’s used on. When shooting APS-C, 30mm is normal focal length that gives you the field of view you’d have with a 45mm lens on fullframe – but it’s actual focal length does not change.
How does this lens compare with the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM Art Lens?
This is native E-mount. That is not.
How are Sigma lenses designated ‘Art’ different from those designated ‘Contemporary’?
Yes. ‘Art’ lenses are constant maximum aperture. ‘Contemporary’ are not.
Thanks Brian.
I am new to this. Please correct me if I am wrong. The constant max aperture criterion applies to zoom lenses, yes? But there are also some fixed FL lenses designated as ‘contemporary’
To say that Sigma’s lens designations are confusing is an understatement of extreme proportions.
Is it a manual lens?
No
