Setting Sony Mirrorless Cameras for Shutter Close with Power OFF with Silent Shutter

Sony Anti-Dust Function

The latest Sony mirrorless cameras including Alpha 1, a7 IV, a7R IV a7C II and a7CR have an Anti-Dust Function that allows you to set the shutter to close when the camera is powered off.

Sony Anti-Dust Function On
Menu > Setup > Setup Option > Anti-dust Function > Shutter When Power OFF > ON

However this does not happen when the camera is set to fully electronic Silent Shutter – UNLESS you also activate this highly unintuitive setting:

Sony Anti-Dust Function Not Target
Menu > Shooting > Shutter/Silent > Silent Mode Settings > Target Function Settings > Shutter When Power OFF > Not Target

Now you’re good to go. Anti-Dust Shutter Close with Power OFF will now work even when the camera is set to fully electronic Silent Shutter. Just bear in mind the shutter is MUCH more delicate than the protective glass covering the sensor – and far more expensive to repair if you damage it.
