Sony and Profoto are expanding their technology partnership with the release of new firmware updates that make Profoto flashes compatible with Sony’s pioneering global shutter camera, the α9 III
This update has been engineered to help creators spend less time adjusting settings and more time capturing the moment. Photographers using the Profoto A10, or the A10 in combination with the D30, Pro-D3, or Pro-B3 will gain seamless flash synchronization in TTL with the α9 III at any shutter speed — up to 1/80,000s. This update marks the first phase in a larger rollout, with full system compatibility planned across Profoto’s flash lineup.
Creative freedom at every shutter speed
The combination of Sony’s global shutter and Profoto’s advanced flash technology unlocks new creative possibilities. For the first time, photographers can sync flash up to 1/80,000s without compromise — enabling full control such as completely exclude ambient light, even in broad daylight.
Whether shaping dramatic shadows with modifiers or freezing action with pinpoint precision, creators can now achieve effects previously impossible using high-speed sync (HSS), and without loss of power or complexity. The result? Full light-shaping freedom and razor-sharp exposures at any aperture or shutter speed.
Instant, flawless exposure
The system works right out of the box, just set the flash to Freeze mode. With automatic TTL exposure for rapid setup and seamless transitions between TTL and Manual mode for fine-tuned control, photographers can stay focused on their vision. With this update creators can spend less time adjusting settings and more time capturing the moment. In collaboration with Sony, Profoto is providing professionals with the tools they need to shape light exactly as they envision — no matter when or where they shoot.

Availability
Firmware updates for the Profoto A10, D30, Pro-D3, and Pro-B3 will be available starting May 22, 2025. Important note: In order to make use of the updated flash synchronization for the D30, the Pro-D3, and the Pro-B3, they need to be triggered by an updated A10.
