Cool Gear: Philippe Starck + LaCie Blade Runner Limited Edition Hard Drive

Designer Philippe Starck has teamed up with LaCie to design the ‘Blade Runner’ Limited Edition Hard Drive. This 4TB USB 3.0 portable hard drive is clad in a heavy-duty aluminum exterior with a plus (+) shaped LED power button which glows orange when there’s activity and alerts your friends to your coolness.

“In my design nothing is useless–style, symbolism or functionality,” Starck said in a statement. “In the Blade Runner, the warm interior electronics are encased in a mystifying shell, and the blades are the radiator that cools down. The suspension gives space for air to circulate around the hard drive, and the metal material increases the temperature conduction.”

Only 9,999 units of Blade Runner will be produced retailing at $299.
