One of the final assignments in my 10-year career as a newspaper photographer was to photograph the ‘Father of Video Art’ Nam June Paik for a Miami Herald story about his 1990 public art commission at Miami International Airport. I showed up to our shoot with a hollowed out TV and Paik kindly played along transforming himself into my living art installation on Miami Beach when he slipped his head into the set.
Thirty three years later the image graces an entire wall of the ‘Nam June Paik: The Miami Years’ exhibition at The Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach.
Nam June Paik: The Miami Years’ will be on display through August 16, 2024 at The Bass Museum of Art, 2100 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139
