Cool Gear: Lowepro Pro Messenger Camera Bags

Nothing beats updating a classic, so I love how Lowepro’s new Pro Messenger AW bags were able to create old school classic canvas feel from the latest space age spun polyester slate gray fabric – which is total 007 stuff like a great grey flannel suit that’s also bullet-proof!

I’m rolling the Pro Messenger 200 AW (I.D. 15.4W X 6.3D X 9.4H inches) discreet like a messenger satchel yet big enough to hold all this stuff:

IN THE BAG:
SONY a900
SONY CZ 85/1.4
SONY NEX-5NSLR MAGIC HyperPrime 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Sony E-Mount
SONY a77 with 16-50/2.8
SONY ECMSST1 Compact Stereo Microphone for NEX
LENSBABY Composer Pro w/Sweet 35 Optic for Sony
CF & SD Cards in Cases
Extra batteries and chargers for Sony Alpha and NEX
iPAD loaded with my book ART&SOUL

Other bags in the lineup include the taller narrower Pro Messenger 180 AW (I.D.10.6W X 6.3D X 12H inches)which is perfect if you want to slip a body with a 70-200/2.8 zoom.

There’s also the ever-so-discreet Pro Messenger 160 AW (I.D. 10.6W X 6.3D X 9.4H inches) perfect for the latest compact digital cameras or when you just need a bag big enough for a body and a lens or two.

  1. I picked one up after a side by side comparison with a comparable model from Think Tank. The LP had better padding and the canvass-like material, which I preferred to the nylon of the TT.

I have LP Slingshots (2 different sizes) and a Pelican case for air travel. The Slingshots are handy for longer trips, trekking and more serious adventure. I wanted something for event photography that wasn’t a backpack, and this really fit the bill. Not too big, but size enough for a day out in the city. The magnetic closure, the weatherproof cover, the neat little innovations like the trolly handle carry are all nice features.

Three LowePro bags in my arsenal now……do you get a free LP t-shirt after your third bag? 🙂

Nice piece and I’m putting it to work tomorrow night for an event.

    Best,

    Chris

  2. Your photo has helped me as much as the text! I chose the competitor’s bag and it was a poor choice for me. Their raincover left the bag’s back exposed. More importantly, it changed the bag from a shooter’s bag to a storage bag that I couldn’t work out of…so it is gone.

This bag has clear advantages for me over the Retro series. Good gear.

  3. this bag came out a year after thinktank’s retrospective and looks like it has a lot of reference points from TT ….shame shame

    1. These bags all remind me of the classic Domke bags from the 80s updated for today’s needs. There are only so many ways to sling a messenger bag an I like these.
