Work with a Great Crew
Whether your shoot is a small intimate affair or large production, we only surround ourselves with the best people in the business. Assistants, Digital Techs, Hair, Make-up and Stylists are all part of our talented team that helps create the final image. Working with a great crew not only makes your life easier, but having more smart people on set is a great thing, they’ll save you many times!
WHAT YOU DON’T SEE IN THIS PHOTO
PRODUCER: Helps the photographer manage the crew and details of the shoot. Part juggler, part magician.
LOCATION SCOUT: Finds a location that fits the look and budget. I enjoy being involved in this whenever possible.
WARDROBE STYLIST: Picks up all the clothing and accessories including several alternative options and makes sure everything looks perfect.
WARDROBE ASSISTANT: Steams wrinkles out of all the clothes and assists the wardrobe stylist.
GROOMER: Makeup artists groom men and apply makeup to the women so the fabulous faces look their best.
HAIR STYLIST: Makes sure George’s Caesar cut is fit for Julius, not Sid.
PROP STYLIST: Finds a Doric column (as well as other props) that matches the art director’s sketch to win major points.
FOOD STYLIST: Ensures that the food (if the shoot includes food) looks as pretty as the talent.
PHOTO ASSISTANTS: Usually three guys are needed to do all the heavy lifting…literally. For example, they’re the ones who do things like set up the 12×12-foot overhead silk to provide cover from the sun, then strike it if a storm heads in, and then set it back up again when the sun comes back out.
PRODUCTION ASSISTANT (PA): Much more than gofers, they keep things moving smoothly, just like on a movie set
DIGITAL TECH: Backs up all the images as you shoot and hands off a drive of images as you wrap. If your clients are at the shoot, it’s best to tether to a computer so they can see the images as you shoot.
RETOUCHER: Cleans up the image and gives the final image its look. If needed, the retoucher combines elements from multiple shots.
LOCATION VAN & DRIVER: Serves as your ‘home’ on the shoot. It’s where you set up hair, makeup, wardrobe, and catering. It also serves as shelter from the rain that rolls in just as you start to shoot.
CATERER: Makes sure everyone gets fed. A full crew is a happy crew. Choose your caterer based on your talent and client. Don’t dare order pulled pork for a vegan or avocado and sprouts for a Southern rapper.
LIMO DRIVER: Drives talent to and from the shoot – effectively averting texting-while-driving accidents.
CREATIVE DIRECTORS, ART DIRECTORS, ART BUYERS, PHOTO EDITORS AND CLIENTS: We’re saving a spot for you! Can we get you a latte?
