  1. The specs list the operating temperature range as 32F to 104F (0C to 40C), implying severely limited use for winter shooting. Do you have a sense they are being ultra conservative? (The Sony VG-C3EM manual lists exactly the same range, btw.)

    1. Yes. I think manufacturers generally use extremely conservative ratings with regard to cold-temperature ratings. That said, hopefully most people are bright enough to keep the camera insulated when not in use.

      1. I have read many negative reviews, and I am concerned that I would be waisting $50. In the end, do you feel that I would end up replacing this item with the Sony version

  2. I contacted Vello to ask them if the Vello BG-S4 (A6300 style) is compatible with the Sony a6400 and I’ve pasted their very cautious and slightly scary reply below. I’m just interested in it as a double battery and wouldn’t be too bothered about the other features to be honest. Their reply: “The Vello BG-S4 (A6300 style) or the BG-S5 (A6500 style) grips are not compatible with the A6400, we do not recommend either, we do not support the use of either grip for the A6400 and accept no responsibility or liability for any damage which may result do to their usage.”

    1. Since Sony doesn’t design a6X00 series cameras for a battery grip, it’s entirely possible that each model has a slightly different layout that requires a different battery grip. I would follow the manufacturers recommendation and wait until they make a grip for a6400

      1. Thanks, Brian. I hope that doesn’t take too long, since no-one has announced they’re making one. The only feature I’m really interested in is the fact that I can power the camera with two batteries in my video work. I’ve never really used it as a vertical grip as such. Maybe I just need to look into alternative ways of powering it 🙂
