Image Data Suite (Remote Camera Control Ver.2.0) users:

    1. Are you aware of a way to use your laptop as an external monitor with the a7s2 or r2 vs just a remote interface?

        1. yes thats it thanks, for some reason I wasnt able to get that working. Is there a certain mode within the USB options I need to use outside of Auto? Secondly would you know if there is a way to display a waveform, again with a laptop tethered? Thanks in advance

    2. Brian-
I’ve been tethering Sony a6000, a6300 & A7R2 cameras to my MacBook Pro for the and I keep running into two issues, intermittently. First issue is that the Sony software somehow “hijacks” my connection and sends photos to it’s own Sony folder structure elsewhere on my Laptop’s hard drive. I haven’t determined when or how this happens. The second issue is that the camera loses connection completely and the only way I can get the MacBook Pro, running on latest El Capitan OS, to connect is by rebooting the computer. Thank goodness for SSD drives and rapid reboots. I am using CC Bridge as my photo viewer while tethering with the Sony app. I also have the latest Sony app, too. Have you seen or heard of either these anomalies?

      thanks in advance,

    3. Brian,
Thank you for a very useful tutorial.
I need to take time-lapse shots with my 7s.
Remote control does not allow to take shots less then 10s apart.
Is there a way to make it 5s or less while still tethered to a PC?
      Thank you.

    4. Hi Brian, i admire your dedication to sony caneras, and thank you for your always helpful input!
Im shooting video 4k with a sony a7sii, and i love it, but im away from the camera, pulling focus remotely and i want to start stop video remotely as well, do you know if i can record 4k in video manual mode (either internally to sd or externally to atomos ninja flame) and use camera remote control software to start stop video recording while my camera is connected to the computer via usb? i know the app whenever used, limits the recording and cannot be 4k and use the slog, thats a bummer and i really dont understand why sony doesnt allows this!

      Thanks

        1. First, many thanks for your response, its amazing that you take time to hel other people like this!
I wasnt thinking on connecting 2 devices to the multi terminal port, what i mean, is only having the sony a7sii connected to the laptop via multi terminal port (only that connection) and using the camera remote control computer software (not the ios app) to start and stop the video recording lets say on the internal sd card on the a7sii (and record 4k, which the app doesn´t allow) can i do this? the remote controller is not a good option as i most of the time can´t be in front of the camera, mostly im back and away by 2 meters at least!
          thanks again

    5. Also, and following my previous comment, can i do that what i want with capture one for sony? what about seeing the info i get on the lcd of the camera while recording and outputting to a monitor? what i mean is, when i record internally in 4k, im also monitoring the image and pulling focus on a 7 inch small hd, but the camera info such as clip length, battery remaining and overheating (all crucial info when im shooting interviews) remains on the camera back lcd which is difficult for me to be watching, but i do can have the mac laptop by my side, and i do can have it connected to the camera via usb, im wondering if i could do both (or any of both) starting and stopping recording and/or monitoring that back lcd info on the computer (any of both would be really helpful) and in any software (capture one, camera remote control, lightroom 2015.7 release camera raw 9.7)
      thanks for you knowledge sharing!
      Juan
