Shoten releases Leica M to Sony E-Mount Close-Focus Adapter

Shoten-LM-SE-Macro-Adapter

Shoten LM-SE M Adapter ($199 on eBay) allows you to extend the minimum focus distance of Leica M, Voigtlander VM and Zeiss ZM mount lenses on Sony E-mount fullframe and APS cameras including Sony a7, a7R, a7S, A7II, a6000, a5100, a5000 and Sony NEX cameras.

In it’s closed position you retain the original focusing range but the helicoid extends up to 6mm allows you to extend the minimum focus distance of Leica M lenses to be manually focus beyond the original close focus distance of the lens. As with other Leica M adapters, there’s no electrical interface – exposure is controlled by aperture ring.

Shoten LM-SE M Adapter offers several advantages over the Voigtlander VM-E Close Focus M Mount to Sony E-Mount Adapter I’ve been using. Not only is Shoten’s LM-SE adapter $100 cheaper, it’s 6mm helicoid extension offers closer focus that Voigtlander’s 4mm extension.

If you already own a Voigtlander VM-E adapter and it meets your needs there’s no reason to switch. But if you’re in the market for a Leica M adapter for your Sony-E-mount camera, this one is worth a look.

  1. I’m having trouble finding the MF distance advantage. I have a leica 35 summilux pre-asph… I have the goggled version so its .65m… what would I expect from an adapter like this?

    1. Think of it as a variable 8mm extension tube. The shorter the lens – the greater the difference an additional 8mm of focus extension will make.

  2. I bought regular adapter and looks like it’s way too long. Can’t reach infinity with CV 35 Nokton 1.2 II and focus distance is limited to 10m. Definitely would not recommend it.

  3. I have been using the yeenon close focus adapter (from eBay and only about $100.00 for a while and this one looks exactly the same – exactly the same!

  4. Brian, I received the Shoten yesterday. While I was waiting on it I came across a very good deal, locally, on the Voigtlander. The Voigtlander works perfectly but when I mounted the Shoten on the 75 f2.5 Color-Heliar (LMT), a7II , nothing moves! Well the release moves 🙂 .
I bought the Black and Silver version on a whim. Is there something I am missing? I was planning on keeping both.
I did send a message to the Vendor immediately asking for advise. It will be a pain if I have to send it back to China.
    Many thanks,
    Tom

  5. I am trying to find a R mount to E mount Helicoid to help improve the MFD for my Leica APO Teytl 180 mm f3.4. All the helicoid including the Shoten are M mount. Are you aware of any R mount helicoid?

    Thx
