  1. A good starter lens BUT All that improvement and NOT chipped!!!! No lens info in meta data. The Rokinon AF 14 f/2.8 is (due to AF). A 14mm is good for landscapes and Astro MW scapes but Astro does not require AF. But unless you put the lens info in the title of your files where your images are you will forget and trying to get lens corrections can be a real problem when you own several lenses. Lens corrections were needed back in 2014 when I started Astro MW but LR did not have till late 2015. The problem then was mustache distortion which if shooting at the ocean the horizon curves up at the sides. If shooting Astro stars will elongate in the upper corners also. I have three Rokinon lenses all have the same issues for night work that need lens correction to solve. Today we need to add notes in the files as to lens info for later that we used to put in a notebook for each capture, loose the book and well …. My advice for astro get the SEL1224G yes f/4 or the SEL1635Z f/4 or the GM f/2.8 all are very sharp with little to no coma and are really sharp at f/8 to f/16 for that wide sunrise landscape the next morning, they will serve for years as they have for me!!!!

    1. That’s likely in order to keep the lenses priced on line with Sony G – not G Master lenses.

    2. Zeiss, Voigtlander, Tamron & Sigma all follow Sony’s lens electronic contact protocols.

Chinese lens makers don’t. I’ve asked several of them if they’re working with Sony to add this capability and their answer was no.
