Pete McBride’s ‘Into The Canyon’ Airs at 8pm Feb 21st on National Geographic Channel

Sony Artisan Pete McBride’s documentary film ‘Into The Canyon’ debuts on The National Geographic Channel at 8pm Eastern on Thursday, February 21st

In 2016 filmmaker/photographer Pete McBride and writer Kevin Fedarko set out on a 750-mile journey on foot through the entire length of the Grand Canyon. From the outset, the challenge was far more than they bargained for. More people have stood on the moon than have completed a continuous through hike of the Canyon. McBride and Fedarko took a sectional approach, achieving a feat that many adventurers have taken decades to complete. Others have lost their lives trying. But their quest was more than just an endurance test – it was also a way to draw attention to the unprecedented threats facing one of our most revered landscapes.

Throughout their passage, McBride and Fedarko encountered an astonishingly diverse and powerful landscape, rich in history, that is now facing perhaps the gravest crisis in the 98-year history of the Grand Canyon National Park.

Directed by Pete McBride and produced by the award-winning team at Insignia Films, INTO THE CANYON is a story of extreme physical hardship that stretches the bonds of friendship and a meditation on the timeless beauty of this sacred place. It is an urgent warning about the environmental dangers that are placing one of America’s greatest monuments in peril and a cautionary tale for our complex relationship with the natural world.

  1. I missed the introduction but caught most of this extraordinary documentary. The landscape, of course, is stunning. Having done a day hike half way down Bright Angel Trail in the spring of ’84, I could only marvel at this undertaking. The most stupefying thing I learned from this film was the gross intrusion of helicopter flights occurring, upwards of 400 a day! And the scheme to build a tourist tram is crass commercialism at its worst! My wife and daughter just travelled to Phoenix two weeks ago, and I told them that it’d be a wasted trip if they didn’t visit GC. They did, and despite a wind chill factor of 2 degrees, they were not disappointed. Everyone should have the GC in their bucket list. This documentary can provide the motivation to make it happen.

  2. Glued to the television for 2 hours last night, for this captivating escape to so beautiful many parts of the Canyon never seen. Let’s hope it’s preserved well beyond our lifetimes.

  3. Captivating. I wouldn’t have blinked if not for the commercials. Sadly, I missed the first several minutes and NEED this to re-air!

  4. Thank you for sharing this beautiful journey with us all. I was glad to see that they voted against the Escalade. You helped show many how important it is to leave what God gave us for all to enjoy and care for. You guys have a lot of heart. Thank you

  5. I just searched the Nat Geo channel out for a month and can’t find when or if this is to be re-aired. It doesn’t show up on a search either. Anyone know if/when it will be re-aired? Can’t believe I missed it and really want to see it!!

  6. I watch too much television, recovering from chemotherapy. When I came upon Into The Canyon, it was a wonderful treat. I couldn’t wait to share what I saw with my family and friends, very exciting! My bucket list contains local michigan sites but to dream big……. Definitely the Grand Canyons. Thank you for this gift, showing me possibilities.

  7. What a great documentary!Have not been to the canyon in years. This gives me inspiration to take a trip.I promise not to take a helicopter ride!
