Video Hints at Future Wide and Tele Zeiss Loxia Lenses

Rich Schleuning, National Sales Manager, International Sales Americas, Camera Lens Division, Carl Zeiss AG confirms Zeiss is developing wide angle and telephoto Zeiss Loxia lenses to join the stellar Zeiss Loxia 50mm F2 and Zeiss Loxia 35mm F2 in a video interview with HDSLR Shooter.

Schleuning says Zeiss has a “very good relationship with Sony – nice corporate communication so they’re aware of what’s coming and can stay ahead of the curve to have lenses to match the cameras when they come out” and is “very excited about E-mount and what Sony is doing with sensors. The range of products that Sony’s building around that mount system right now deserves a dedicated lens system.”

He confirms that Loxia was designed to address Motion and video users of Sony FS7, A7S A7II who prefer the sensitive feel of manual focus control – not fly by wire AF.

Loxia lenses built specifically for digital sensors – not film. While Zeiss has many M-mount lenses are good match in terms of size with Sony A7 series cameras – many are not a good match optically because wide-angle Biogon design has a very steep angle is not well suited to a digital sensor causing color shading and magenta cast in the corners.
