What’s your Sony lens wishlist? As the Sony lens line-up continues to expand, here are the most-requested lenses from our readers.

TOP SONY FULLFRAME E-MOUNT LENS REQUESTS:

FE 16-35mm F2.8 G Master
COMMENTS: The third G Master 2.8 zoom lens to round-out G Master Holy Trinity!

FE 24mm F1.4 (ZA or GM)
COMMENTS: Fourth lens to round-up the clickless aperture design-series of the 35, 50 and 85 F1.4 lenses

FE 24-105mm F4 ZA or FE 24-120mm F4 ZA
COMMENTS: Ex-Canon shooters ask for 24-105mm. Ex-Nikon shooters ask for 24-120mm. Either is fine. But it needs to be sharper than the FE 24-70 F4 ZA.

FE 85mm F1.8
COMMENTS: Budget-priced portrait lens to go with the FE 28mm F/2 and FE 50mm F1.8.

FE 135mm F1.8 (ZA or GM)
COMMENTS: One of the greatest A-mount lenses would be make an outstanding addition for E-mount!

FE 200-500mm F5.6 or FE 150mm-600mm F5-6.3
COMMENTS: Since the budget-priced 150-600mm super-zoom falls apart above 500mm, I’d prefer a fixed max aperture F5.6 200-500mm similar in price and quality to Nikon’s 200-500mm.

TOP SONY E-MOUNT APS-C LENS REQUESTS:

16-50mm F2.8 for Sony E-Mount APS-C
COMMENTS: Fast aperture 24-70mm-equivalent for Sony APS-C/Super 35 cameras.

50-150mm F2.8 for Sony E-Mount APS-C
COMMENTS: Fast aperture 70-200mm/2.8-equivalent for Sony APS-C/Super 35 cameras.

TOP SONY A-MOUNT LENS REQUESTS:

85mm F.14 (ZA or GM) SSM for Sony A-Mount
COMMENTS: Great lens for A-mount cameras but screw drive focus makes for slow AF.

135mm F1.8 ZA SSM for Sony A-Mount
COMMENTS: One of the greatest lenses ever made. It’s only weakness is its slow screw drive AF.

  1. Heartily seconding the APS-C choices above…a pair of compact, fixed fast aperture zooms in this range would be super. 16-50mm f/2.8, 50-150mm f/2.8. Please!

  2. A-Mount 135 f/1.8 SSM… Will be great for portrait (Full Frame) and sport (Crop Sensor)… One lens for my Sony A99 and Sony A7RII via Sony Adapter…

  3. Hi Brian…I would love to see a 300 f4 FE G or GM, 400 5.6, 200-400 f4, 200-500 f5.6, 400 2.8, 500 f4 and 600 f4….also would love to see a 35 f2 and a 135 1.8 (all of these for E mount).

  4. I’m on board with João Medeiros.

    35mm f2.8 is great, but only 2.8
35mm f2 looks good, but completely manual
35mm f1.4 is awesome, but is giant and expensive

My most wanted lens is an autofocus 35mm f2.

  5. as mentioned my many already… for FE: 135mm F1.8, something wider than 16mm (FF), like a 14-24mm F4 would be great. A 300mm F2.8 would also be nice

I would also like to reiterate what Brian Smith has brought up in the past about a updated LA EA4 adapter… but I absolutely hate the AF points… At the moment, even though I still own the A-mount Zeiss 135mm F1.8, I rather use a Canon 135L with the Metabones adapter (with my a7RII), at least I get more AF points with that combination.

  6. Sony A-mount needs the following lenses:
400/2.8 G SSM or 400/4 G SSM with XA or Super ED elements, weather sealing and Nano AR coatings.
Newly designed 35/1.4 G SSM with weather sealing & Nano AR coatings
Updated 85/1.4 ZA and 135/1.8 ZA with weather sealing, SSM drive and Nano AR coatings.

  7. A 135mm F2 specially if it has NO Swirly bokeh.
Would be nice to have a 16-35mm F2.8 but I am still waiting for more reviews about how good the current GM zooms are vs Canon options. It seems to me that while Sony primes are TOP of the foodchain, Canon may still have the upper hand when it comes to zooms.

  8. A 24-105 or 24-120 in FE mount would be great, it will be a super sales lens so I don’t understand why Sony hasn’t released it yet but keep launching around 50mm. Also a 135mm is in my wish list even 2.8 because a 1.8 for sure will have a ridiculous price

  9. 8-15/4
    12-24/4
    15/2.8 ZA
    20/2.8 TS
    21/2 GM
    24/1.8 ZA
    28/1.8 ZA
    35/1.8 ZA
    43/1.8 Pancake
    60/2 MP (1:1)
    85/1.8 ZA
    100/1.8 GM
    100/2 MP APO (1:1)
    135/1.8 ZA APO
    200/4 MP APO (1:1)
    300/2.8 ZA APO
    400/4 GM APO
    600/4 GM APO

  10. SAL 35 f1.4G – update
    SAL 70-210 f4 – minolta beercan update
SAL 135 f2.8 – minolta pocket rocket update
    SAL 85 f1.4 – SSM update
    SAL 300 f4, 400 f4 and 600 f4 – again minolta update

  11. Sigma has the 24-105 f/4 for A-Mount… Some guy said, it is sharper than 24-70 F/2.8 Sony/Zeiss SSM II… It is able to use with A-Mount and E-Mount via Sony Adapter…

  12. The Sony bodies are awesome. They are built for sports but don’t have the glass to go with it. If they had 400mm 2.8 or a 500mm, I would sell all my non Sony gear.

      1. I understand, but I’ve seen that lenses developed and optimized for APS-C sensors provide a much sharper image on a Sony a6X00 than a more expensive FE glass

        1. Aha, you didn’t mention APS-C in your request.

First, there is a Zeiss Touit 50mm f/2.8M Macro Lens that offers exceptional optical quality.

Second, I have to correct your last statement. Some people are misinterpreting DxO lens tests results and assuming that fullframe lenses are not optimized for APS-C camera. That’s actually backwards. APS-C sensors simply can’t resolve the same detail that larger full frame sensors can. It’s still quite good. Just not as good as full frame.

  13. Tilt shift lenses definitely. It would be great to have one rather than relying on a 3rd party adapter and competitor’s lenses. Something similar to the famous TSE 17mm F4 would be phenomenal.

  14. – 135/2 GM/ZA/Batis
    – My SAL 85/2.8 is very light, travel- and budget-friendly. I’d buy a FE version of it.
    – a 35/2 Batis
    – I’d like a FE 200/2.0 or 300/2.8, but I’m afraid I’m not willing to pay the price. So a long tele zoom would be much more realistic.

Other than that, I’m very happy with my FE lens collection.

  15. Hi Brian. There is a need for an A mount 24-105 f4. Sigma has one in their Art line but a99ii does not have Hybrid Phase Detection AF for 3rd party lenses. I see that lens as an all purpose lens with excellent optical characteristics combined with a wide zoom range to take advantage of the autofocus capabilities of a99ii. Please pass the word to the big guy. Thanks. Tom

  16. 16-35mm f2.8 is then lens I’m looking forward to. For right now I think I’ll give to Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 lens a try with one of the new adapters that have hit the market.
