As promised last week, today’s Sony a7RII Firmware Update FW 2.00 adds 14-Bit Uncompressed Raw for Sony a7RII mirrorless cameras.

ILCE-7RM2 System Software Update

This utility updates the ILCE-7RM2 system software to version 2.00, and provides the following benefits:

Improvements over version 1.10:

  • Adds the selectable feature for uncompressed 14-Bit RAW image capture
  • Adds support to output video via HDMI during use of the Remote Camera Control software (still mode only)

Benefits from previous updates and included in version 2.00:

Sony firmware updates are cumulative so this update includes the updates from Firmware Update 1.10:

  • Reduces the chance of the camera changing to front focus when shooting certain scenes. (Note: This symptom rarely occurs.)
  • Decreases chroma noise when Long Exposure NR (Noise Reduction) is set to Off. (Note: The noise does not occur when Long Exposure NR is set to On.)
  • Improves continuous shooting at Hi speed so that it can be used just as long when using the flash as without the flash.

    1. I am just wondering if you might know if the uncompressed raw firmware might make its way to the sony A7 mkii as it has to the other mkii versions.

    2. Hello Brian, what software do you use to read the new uncompressed RAW file ? I am using the Capture One Express for Sony, but it only displays a black screen for the uncompressed RAW files. Or what else do you suggest to use if Capture One Express for Sony does not support it ? Thanks

      1. The current versions of Lightroom, Photoshop and Adobe DNG Converter support Sony Uncompressed Raw from both a7RII and a7SII. If Capture One does not yet, it will likely be in the next update.

        1. I don’t have those, but I found out later that it supported RAW from A7SII and assumed it would do the same with A7RII – As you confirmed – Thanks Brian !

    4. HI!
when recording 4k video. Do you know why I get an (.mp4) file when I open it on my mac? isn’t (.mp4) too compressed?

    5. Hi Brian, i have problems with the display in the monitor, it seems that only a little part is on focus, then i take a shot and the play back give me the real depth of field, im using a 50mm f. 1.2 canon serie Lense, and the metabones speed booster ultra, can you help me?

      1. Third-party lenses on Smart Adapters will focus wide open – then stop down when you shoot. If you wish to see Depth of Field preview with Canon lenses on a7RII, you can program ‘Aperture Preview’ to a Custom Button.

Menu > Custom Settings > Custom Key Settings > Custom Button (1-4) > Aperture Preview

    6. Do you have any feedback on a7r2 with last firmware for long exposure (iso100, around 2 or 3min) with lenr off ? All tests I see on the net show ot worse than A7R.
      Thanks
