Sigma posted this compatibility list for their MC-11 Smart Adapters designed for Sigma EF and SA mount lenses on Sony E-Mount cameras:

That doesn’t mean these are the only compatible lenses – it simply means that the adapter is engineered for Sigma EF and SA mount lenses. This COULD potentially improve AF performance with certain Sigma lenses such as Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Canon EF or Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Lens for Canon EF that are dogs on other Smart Adapters.

The Sigma MC-11 converter can be updated with the latest compatible lens information from a workstation or laptop using the Sigma Optimization Pro software and Sigma USB Dock.

  1. Hi, for someone that doesn’t own any canon or sigma lenses, is it better to buy the MC-11 with sigma or canon glass or better to buy native FE lenses. My gear is a7rii, FE 55 1.8, 24-70 f4 and 10-18 OSS. I am looking to buy a zoom lens and a portrait prime

    1. It depends.

Sigma 85/1.4 with Metabones adapter performed quite well on my A7ii. At the same time Batis 85/1.8 si quite nice and I prefer it. The Sigma is cheaper, focuses faster and is f/1.4. Batis is in my opinion sharper and has a number of small (d)effects making it better portrait lens. The new G Master lens looks great and possibly will outperform the Sigma but is a lot more expensive.

On the 135mm length used again for portraits. There is not FE mount option. I have both Zeiss Sonar 1.8/135 for Sony A mount used with LA-EA4 and Canon 135L f/2. I prefer the Canon for most thing although the Zeiss delivers better IQ. Problem is the Zeiss lens uses screw driven AF and is not as consistent in locking focus. Also the Canon is substantially lighter.

I am not sure what you need the zoom for. Both Canon and Sony offer various zooms. In general I would look into FE mount options first as they provide full compatibility. Yet adapted lenses sometimes provide similar performance and better value. Also there are some areas where FE mount still lacks native lenses e.g. 100-400 zoom is not available OR 16-35/2.8 zoom. So it depends. You need to define better your need and look into different options. If you can rent or borrow and try the lenses before you buy it is better.

      1. Thanks a lot for your detailed message, cost is an issue indeed with the new FE lenses and i would prefer to save if quality difference is not huge, i am not a professional at the end of the day. I will need an 85-90mm lens for portraits and a zoom in the range of 300mm for landscape/architecture stitching

  2. It seems that Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art is twice in the compatibility list.

It it supposed to be a different lens in the place of one of the two or did just the entry got inserted twice by accident?

        1. There is no 50mm 1.5 Art lens – but the 50mm 1.4 Art lens in the next lens on the list. Once again, it ain’t my list. It came from Sigma so I won’t speculate on what they meant.
