What an amazing whirlwind 2012 has been! It was the year I wrote, designed and released my new portrait photography book from Peachpit’s New Riders, ‘Secrets of Great Portrait Photography’. Thanks to great support from bloggers including David Hobby, Scott Kelby, David Schonauer, Syl Arena, and Chris Gampat, ‘Secrets of Great Portrait Photography’ debuted in Amazon’s Top 100!
My awesome publisher hooked me up to speak at the Apple Store SoHo for my book launch. On the day of my talk I discovered that I’d be “opening” for rapper T.I. who was next up on stage. A nice side benefit of opening for a rap star is that my “Meet the Author’ talk is available as a video podcast on iTunes. Much as I tried, I failed to land the highly coveted “Explicit” Warning label. Damn, there goes my street cred…
My portrait photography exhibit of ‘Portraits of the Famous and Infamous’ at Books & Books marked the 30th Anniversary of the best independent bookstore in the country. The year also marked my first appearance speaking at the Miami Book Fair International. How lucky to speak opposite 260-million-books-sold-to-date-author-James-Patterson. Guess who won that Face-off?
It was again a year filled travel racking up 100,000 airmiles to shoots, speaking appearances and workshops at PhotoPlus Expo in New York, WPPI in Las Vegas, Exposure Show in Toronto, Sony/APA Assistant Basic Training in Seattle, Miami and at RIT and talks about editorial photography to ASMP Boise and SVA in New York.
Here are a few of our favorite portrait photography posts, podcasts, webcasts, interviews and reviews from 2012 – I hope you’ll enjoy!
