Sony a9 RAW Support and Tethering Support
Capture One Pro 10.1 and Capture One Pro 10.1 for Sony add Sony a9 RAW support and tethering support. Capture One Express 10.1 for Sony will also get Sony a9 RAW support, but as always, the Express version does not support tethering.

Does it do full tethering over ethernet?
As far as I know, Capture One uses the USB connection – not Ethernet.

My a9 has shipped and will arrive in a couple days. Did you ever get any clarification on whether tethering will use the USB connection or the ethernet port on the a9?

Bummer! Whole point in my mind of having ethernet connection was to speed up transfer of files while tethering. Can’t believe they stuck with USB2 vs USB3 as well!

Ethernet Port is designed for newspaper, wire service and photo agency photographers with editors who edit remotely on major news and sporting events.
Yep, I saw that but thought it would be set up for tethering as well since they didn’t add USB3 and because everyone else is moving to that on pro level cameras with medium to high file size. So much feedback for them to add USB3. Unbelievable and puzzling that they didn’t!
USB-3 was actually needed MUCH more on a7RII than a9. It was the top thing on my list when I met with Sony engineers and product planners last week.
Yes, agreed! I’m currently shooting with an A7rII and it’s almost unusable shooting candid lifestyle tethered. This makes me nervous that they won’t have a better solution for a future A9R. The A9 is probably just a temporary camera for me until a A9R comes out. Tethered on A9 with USB2 will be adequate but not fast. In comparison, several friends shoot with Canon 5D4 and it shoots tethered lightning fast with USB3. Please pass this up the ladder if you can 😉
The need for USB-3 has already been explained to Sony Engineering.

I cannot believe Sony continues with their bogus micro usb for us tethered shooters. I have been tempted to switch over from Canon for 2-3 years now and they blew it not put usb 3.0 on the A7rii. Isn’t there a Ethernet to usb 3.0
Adaptor that could be used with the A9? I cannot believe Sony is the only current camera not using at least usb 3.0. I hope you talks with Sony worked bc they whiffed with the A7rii and their newest flag ship A9 with micro usb. Seems there should be a ethernet to usb 3.0 or thunderbolt adaptor that should work or am I mistaken?
Agree 100% with you on USB 3.1. I’ve been pushing for that for a long time but hopefully my pleas have finally found the right “ears” I’m not certain it’s not compatible with the micro USB connection but the Bus speed definitely needs an upgrade.
I don’t think it’s as simple as slapping a USB 3 or thunderbolt adapter on the end of an Ethernet cable – but I’d truly love to be wrong on that.
Well several people have made comments on my complaints about the A9 having once again micro usb and they all have said why don’t I use ethernet port which should be faster than usb 3.1. I have search all

I am not really interested in the a9 as I would like to get the A7riii or A9r or whatever it might be. But I think there are ethernet to thunderbolt cables and I am not sure capture cares about thunderbolt as I use to tehered my p30 phaseone with firewire 400 to thunderbolt and it worked.
I believe that when connecting through the Ethernet port a9 will search for an FTP connection rather than direct access to a USB or thunderbolt port, but again, I’d be happy to be wrong about that…
With the A9 tethered to CaptureOne can you simultaneously save files to the SD card and the PC/Mac? I didn’t think any Sony’s would do this but Canon and Nikon will.
