This year’s NAB conference in Las Vegas brought together this Sony group portrait of their Super 35mm line of cameras which features legendary cinematographers Curtis Clark, ASC; Richard Crudo, ASC; Daryn Okada, ASC; Dennis Dillon, DP; Francis Kenny, ASC, Cinematographer Brooke Mailhiot, Student Filmmaker’s Cassie Brooksbank and Cameron Combe and yours truly, Brian Smith. It’s wonderful to be in such fine company.

The latest issue of UK Professional Photography magazine features this nice behind-the-scenes look at my Time Magazine shoot of Richard Branson filled with the details from concept to post-production about our shoot of the billionaire on his private island in the Caribbean.

In what ranks as possibly the most unlikely statement of an outrageously lucky career, Julia Roberts and I are in the September 2010 issue of Elle Magazine. Julia is on the cover where she belongs but the massive 562-page issue also spotlights my ‘Art & Soul’ celebrity portrait project that I photographed for The Creative Coalition with the generous support of Sony.
The spread in Elle previews a few of the images of creative artists Jimmy Smits, Alyssa Milano, Samuel L Jackson, James Denton, Spike Lee, Harry Belafonte, Taraji P Henson, Portia Doubleday, Debi Mazar, David Hyde Pierce, Jesse Williams, Tony Bennett, Dayna Mendoza, Kim Kardashian, Kerry Washington, Miss J Alexander, Marlon Wayans and Taye Diggs in the project that showcases the importance of support for the arts and arts education.

My thanks to American PHOTO magazine’s Editor-in-Chief David Schonauer for the great feature about our celebrity shoot for the ART & SOUL project in their current May/June 2009 issue. Along with Sony and The Creative Coalition, American PHOTO’s publisher Jeffrey Roberts was a key organizer of the project – my thanks to him for his support.
It just goes to show that life sometimes takes your full circle, since in my younger days when I was named one of American PHOTO’s “New Faces” in magazine photography.

Hideki Matsui of the New York Yankees shot with Sony a700 and Sony's Zeiss 135/1.8
Brian Smith has been named as one of five photographers to launch Sony’s new professional photographer program, The Artisans of Imagery, which showcases five top professional photographers who have been using their Alpha A900 DSLRs and lenses from Sony. Brian Smith joins Andy Katz, David McLain, Christina Mittermeier and Matthew Jordan Smith. Their photographic works were on display at the PhotoPlus Expo held in New York October 22-24.
